I use evidence-based treatment approaches with an attachment and relationship focused lens. EFT, IFS, and other experiential therapies are used to build insight and help you find a way forward. Take a look at the About page for more information.
Finding the right fit matters. I encourage you to set up a free 15-minute consultation, ask questions and trust your instincts.
The benefit of meeting online is that it’s flexible and removes barriers. Because of this, I will keep the logistics of meeting online pretty easy. To get the very most from your sessions, here are some things to keep in mind.
A day or more before our session:
-Test your set-up: Use a computer that has a camera, a tablet that can run a web-browser or a smart phone. If you’re able to run a video call with family or friends, no additional hardware will be needed. Your consultation call can be a simple way to make sure your set-up is working for you with the app I will be using for our meetings.
On the day of:
-Give yourself an extra minute or two to get connected and ensure everything is working smoothly
-Bring a blanket or a cup of tea to get comfy
-Turn off notifications to minimize distraction
-Find a private space (this can be at the park or in your car if home isn’t a quiet space)
-You want the privacy to share whatever you’d like without having to monitor what others may overhear. Don’t meet in busy or public spaces
-Interruptions will slow down our progress. Sometimes this is unavoidable (If you’re also providing care for a child or two, for example), but you will get more out of the session if you are able to minimize disruptions
-In the case of couples work: high conflict can be difficult to navigate online if an argument will prevent you hearing me as I attempt to get you out of a stuck place
-Accessing secondary media (such as games or videos) is generally unhelpful to the counselling process as it will keep you from fully participating in the session. People with severe attention challenges may use manual fidget tools or may find that in-person sessions are a better fit
-Alcohol and other substances are discouraged before or during sessions. You will want to be as clear-headed as possible
I use the Jane app for scheduling, client profile storage and confidential online meeting space. The Jane app is HIPAA compliant and meets all Canadian privacy regulations. I also use Zoom as a back up meeting space when clients consent to it. These meetings are end-to-end encrypted and the app does not store meeting data. We will discuss confidentiality more if you choose to work with me, but suffice it to say that your personal information is not at additional risk compared to in-person therapy.
You will be able to contact me to let me know if you’re having trouble. I will call you to help with troubleshooting and if we are unable to work it out, we can choose to move our session to phone or reschedule if needed.
A typical counselling session includes 50-55 minutes to focus on the work of our sessions, followed by 5-10 minutes to discuss future session scheduling, payment and for file-keeping tasks. Frequency and duration of counselling is fundamentally the decision of my clients, but I will make recommendations to you based on what brings you into counselling.
I charge $150 for one-on-one sessions, and $170 for couple or family sessions. Fees will be paid electronically by credit card payment via my booking app, or with e-transfers. As rates may change, see my online booking site for the most up to date charges and additional options. Extended benefits can help with the costs, and reducing frequency or session length may be worth considering to extend your funds. A reduced fee may be available for students and those on a fixed income. Let me know if this may apply to you.
I have a 24-hour cancellation or rescheduling policy. This means that there is no penalty to change your booking if you give me more than a day’s notice. Same-day booking changes are subject to a $100 cancellation fee.
